Frequently Asked Questions

Answers About Our Boxing-Based Gym

If you’re a first timer to RockBox Fitness, you may have a few questions about our studio and our classes. Our unique boxing-based fitness is new to many, so we want to be as open and transparent as possible about what to expect. Boxing and kickboxing can be intimidating to some, but it doesn’t need to be. We’ll show you everything you need to know before class begins. That said, there are quite a few questions we are often asked, so we’ve compiled them below along with our answers.

Check out our FAQ section below. Still have questions about RockBox Fitness? Don’t hesitate to give us a call at (980) 220-6691 so that we can answer them for you.

  • I've never boxed before. Will I be able to keep up?

Our expert trainers are with you the entire way to show you how. They coach you through the workout step by step and everybody works at their own level of fitness, regardless of experience or physical ability. And remember, we only hit bags, not each other.

  • What if I can't do everything in class or complete each exercise?

It doesn’t matter if you’ve never worked out or you’re at the top of your game, we just ask that you bring it. Our trainers show you how to modify any exercise so you can achieve optimal results in a safe manner.

  • Is there a beginner class?

No, because RockBox Fitness is suitable for absolute beginners and seasoned pros. We only ask that prior to your first class you come to the studio 30 minutes early and our trainers will show you how to throw the punches and kicks you will use in class. You’ll also get to practice before you start.

  • Do you offer private lessons and personal training?

Yes, some of our studios offer personal training and other additional support! Our nationally certified trainers are experts in boxing, kickboxing, and functional strength training. You can choose a personal training plan that best fits your needs. Some members take private lessons to brush up on their technical skills and some to work through a comprehensive fitness plan. We have you covered and will help you discover the champion within you!

  • What should I wear?

Appropriate fitness attire such as athletic shorts/leggings, a comfortable shirt, and athletic shoes. Of course, we prefer you rock a super cool RockBox Fitness logoed t-shirt and show the world just how much YOU rock.

  • What do I do when I get there?

Just tell the person at the front desk it is your first time, and they will take care of you from there.

  • What should I bring? Do you have water, or should I bring my own?

Bring a towel, because you’ll torch calories and they will flee from your body in the form of sweat. We sell bottled water and have water dispensers to fill your own bottle if you prefer. Gotta stay hydrated!

  • Can I take a class if I'm pregnant?

We have members who train through most of their pregnancy, but of course, that is a question for your doctor.

  • Will boxing make me bulk up?

Boxers have amongst the best power-to-weight ratios of any athlete in the world. Boxing training delivers strong and lean physiques, which is why Hollywood stars and top models use boxing as their go-to form of training to get into magazine-cover shape.

  • Do I need to bring gloves?

Gloves are available to rent or buy from the front desk for a very reasonable price, or you can bring your own.

  • What are wraps and do I really need them?

Wraps serve to protect your wrists and hands when punching the bags. We have either slip-on gel wraps or traditional hand wraps for sale at the front desk. They both are machine-washable and can be used again and again and again.

  • How old do you need to be to take a class?

For classes, 14 is the minimum age limit with a parent in attendance, and 16 without a parent. Minors do need to have their parent or guardian sign for them. *Please reach out to the studio near you to confirm the minimum age.

  • When should I arrive?

First-timers should arrive 30 minutes early for their orientation, and regular attending members should aim to be at the studio 5-10 minutes before class for check-in.

  • What are the benefits of boxing?

Oh, let us count the ways boxing can help you! Boxing is great at torching fat, increasing muscle tone and cardiovascular fitness, improving muscular endurance, strength, and power, improving core stability and overall flexibility, and being the best stress relief activity ever. Seriously.

  • Will I lose weight from boxing?
Yes! Boxing has proven time and again to be one of the most effective forms of exercise for losing weight. You can burn up to 1,000 calories per workout. It’s the real deal, Holyfield.
  • Why should I choose boxing?
ESPN polled a panel of 40 experts to determine which sport produced the best overall athlete. After evaluating all major sports, boxing came out on top with boxers having the highest overall score for fitness, strength, conditioning, speed, and power. Come to RockBox and you’ll see why.
  • Why specifically RockBox?

Since no two classes are ever the same. We keep your body guessing, making it nearly impossible to hit a weight loss plateau and even less likely for you to get bored. You’ll have FUN working out harder than you ever have – and feel like a badass doing it.
